Cone Coffee
The culmination of the South Africa living is the breakfast, desserts, snacks and drinks. Easy to please anyone. Breakfast ranges from "mieliepap" and "beskuit. "Mieliepap" is the same consistency as polenta and served with a spoon coffee sugar, butter and milk. Breakfast very creamy and healthy for you to see through the morning hours. "Beskuit" is toast, pasta baked in the oven, broken apart and then place in oven to dry. The perfect breakfast, especially for those living on farms, is homemade crackers, dipped in your morning coffee. If you are a tea lover, try the great local tea herbal called "rooibos"
During the morning, you can munch on some biltong "which is salted dried meat or" OPAL "worse" being dried sausage. You can not watch any rugby match or cricket without this salty snacks. It is now time for more coffee served with banana, ginger, corn bread, smeared with butter. Mealie bread is a sweet bread, cooked with sweet corn. You probably wonder why we have such an obsession with corn? Well, mainly maize are staple foods AfricaA's. We use it to make breakfast, bread, crisps (or chips) and many others.
After completing this, it is time for your main meal of the day. And then the BEST course arrives, dessert. Most puddings are baked pies served with custard and ice cream or a sauce. Malva pudding is a favorite of old, great-tasting desserts sweet spongy Apricot sauce with sweet lovely. Pudding Cottage is a type of pudding cake served with a white wine sauce.
If you prefer a more cold dessert is the place to be. Enjoy a fresh fruit salad ice cream, made with local fruit in season. The most famous fruits are grapes, apples, naartjies (a type of mandarin), Fishery, apricots, mangoes, melons and much more. Over there is nothing more refreshing than a fresh fruit salad. If you like icecream, there are little gifts in store for you too. Try the watermelon or papaya ice cream in a cone or on its own.
As a treat, why not try a Dom Pedro? This is ice cream with a small drop of milk and a glass of whiskey your favorite liquor. Try Amarula liqueur, made from the marula fruit or powerful Van der Hum liqueur, made from fresh naartjies. It is a treatment you should not pass.
Later in the afternoon you can enjoy some "koeksisters", a very sweet delicacy. Afrikaans "koeksisters" are twisted pastries, deep fried, then sweet with a very sweet sauce. Another of my favorites is "ystervarkies" a sponge cake, dipped in chocolate sauce homemade rolled in coconut! Does not that sound just wonderful?
If you prefer something less sweet, try melktert " (almond milk). It is a milk tart, absolutely beautiful, if you eat it warm, just as it is made. If you want something tasty, try the souttert "(savory pie) composed mainly of Vienna sausages, cheese, onions, herbs and egg.
For the evening you can enjoy one of the best foods known, "vetkoek. This is a treat. You can enjoy "vetkoek" in three ways. Dunk in your tea, syrup and butter with cheese or stuffed curried mince. Whatever one you choose, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking a smaller, try the "plaatkoekies" (almost like crumpets) served with marmite or syrup or maybe try pancakes with cinnamon sugar?
During the day, you will never thirst. If you like hot drinks, there are many varieties of strong coffee, regular tea, "Rooibos" tea, hot chocolate and my favorite, milo. This is a great drink full of vitamins and minerals, manufactured with hot milk or cold. If you prefer cold drinks, try different iced teas and fruit juices. Guava, Orange, grinadella, fruit cocktail, grape, peach, pear, apple, apricot and mango are a few choices you have in fruit juices. Guava and mango should be two choices dearer.
If you are looking for a bottle of wine with your meal, there are hundreds of wines from the Cape region to choose. You'll be spoiled for choice. Be sure to try as much as possible and enjoy the hospitality while visiting the rainbow country, South Africa.
